Adelaide Strikers 144 (19 overs): Carey 54 (35); Dwarshuis 3-28, Murphy 3-35
Sydney Sixers won by 59 runs.
Steve Smith’s second T20 century led the Sydney Sixers to victory over the Adelaide Strikers and secured their place in the Big Bash League knockout stages.
Smith scored 101 off 56 balls, which included five fours and seven sixes, before being run out.
Smith’s century saw the Sixers post 5-203 and the Strikers won by 59 runs after being bowled out for 144 runs.
Australian keeper Alex Carey scored 54 for Adelaide, who lost regular wickets in their chase.
The Strikers remain in playoff contention, but may need to win their remaining two games against the Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Renegades to qualify.
The Sixers look poised to finish in the top two, which would see them play in the qualifiers and have two chances to reach the final on February 4.
Smith’s century was the first by a Sixers men’s batsman in 12 Big Bash seasons.
His maiden T20 century came back in 2016, when he scored 101 off 54 balls for Rising Pune Supergiants against Gujarat Lions in the Indian Premier League.
England duo James Vince and Chris Jordan used to play for the Sixers but have now left to play in the inaugural International League T20 in the United Arab Emirates.
