The cremated body of former President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf will be flown to Pakistan today from the United Arab Emirates, where he died on Sunday at the age of 79 after a prolonged illness.
The body of the former army chief will be brought to Pakistan by a special flight at 11:30 am Pakistan time.
The Pakistani Embassy in the UAE had issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to bring Pervez Musharraf’s body back to Pakistan on the request of his family.
Former military leader’s wife Sohba Musharraf, son Bilal and daughter Ayla will bring the body of the deceased to Pakistan.
The doctors suggested immediate burial after Pervez Musharraf’s dead body reached Pakistan.
The body of the former president is currently kept in the local hospital mortuary.
Pervez Musharraf passed away on Sunday at the age of 79 in a hospital. He was being treated for amyloidosis at the American Hospital Dubai.
Musharraf’s family had filed an application at the Pakistani consulate in Dubai to transfer the body of the former military leader to Pakistan.
Musharraf will be buried in Karachi
Family sources confirmed that the former president will be laid to rest in Karachi’s graveyard. The bereaved family formally sought permission from the Pakistani consulate in Dubai to transfer Musharraf’s body to Pakistan.
It should be noted that the former president’s mother was buried in Dubai while his father was buried in Karachi. “His [Musharraf’s] passport has been cancelled,” diplomatic officials said, adding that a special plane carrying the former army chief’s body would arrive in Rawalpindi.
Earlier, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch confirmed that they are facilitating the transfer of the dead body of the former Army Chief.
“Our missions in the UAE are in touch with the family and are facilitating the transportation of the bodies,” he added.
Condolences
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and the Chief of Army Staff, along with politicians, expressed their condolences on the death of Pervez Musharraf.
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad and the chiefs of the three armed forces expressed their heartfelt condolences on the death of Pervez Musharraf.
The Army’s media wing said, “CJCSC and Services Chiefs express their heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of General Pervez Musharraf, former President, CJCSC and Chief of Army Staff. May God rest his soul in Jowar Rahmat and the bereaved family.” Give strength.”
