Case of Karachi Police Office attack was registered against attackers and facilitators.

KARACHI: A case has been registered in the Sindh Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police station against the three dead terrorists, their facilitators and the escaped attackers in connection with the attack on the Karachi Police Chief’s office.

Three terrorists were killed and four people including two policemen and a sub-inspector of Sindh Rangers were martyred in the nerve-racking operation that lasted for about four hours on Friday evening.

18 other people including police and Rangers personnel were also injured in the terrorist attack.

The case has been registered on the complaint of Station House Officer (SHO) of Sadar police station. The First Information Report (FIR) includes provisions including terrorism and attempted murder, and Sections three and four of the Explosives Act, 1884.

According to the FIR, the attack was reported through a wireless phone at 7:15 pm. The SHO said that they reached the building at 7.20 pm and called the police personnel.

The FIR stated that an operation against terrorists was planned under the leadership of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Irfan Baloch. He added that three terrorists were involved in the attack.

In retaliation, one terrorist was killed on the fourth floor and the third floor of a building. Meanwhile, one of them blew himself up on the third floor.

“The two terrorists who were killed in the retaliatory action were wearing suicide jackets,” the FIR said, adding that the body parts of the suicide bombers had been recovered.

The case was registered on February 18 at 4:30 pm, police said.

The FIR further stated that the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack on social media.

“The terrorists entered the compound by cutting the barbed wire attached to the rear wall of the family quarters built near the police line,” it said. It added that the three terrorists reached Sadar Police Line in a car and have been taken into custody.

It added that two more terrorists came on a motorcycle and pointed the KPO towards the terrorists traveling in a car. “Five hand grenades and two suicide vests have been recovered from the terrorists which have been defused”.

Search initiated for slain terrorists’ families

Meanwhile, sources within the police said that a search operation has been launched to trace the families of two of the slain terrorists.

Sources said that the terrorist Sala Noor and the suicide bomber Majeed Nizami belonged to Datta Khel area of North Waziristan while the third one is Kifayatullah who belongs to Lakki Marwat.

Two of the terrorists have been identified and both had the status of Internally Displaced Person (IDP).
