NEW DELHI – Students at a private university in Punjab, India walked out and protested after a hosteler filmed pornographic clips of other female students and shared them online.
Earlier, the administration tried to cover up the protests for the sake of the reputation of the university. However, a girl allegedly attempted suicide on campus during the protest on Saturday, prompting national and international media to cover the incident.
Law enforcement officials reached Chandigarh University and dispersed the protestors and detained one student.
Describing the incident at Chandigarh University as unfortunate, CM @BhagwantMann has ordered high level probe into the matter. CM said severe action will be taken against the perpetrators. CM urged people to not get swayed away with rumours being spread by anti-social elements.

The police then registered a case against the accused girl, who is a first-year MBA student, under Indian Penal Code and Section 354C of the IT Act, for making obscene videos and sharing them online.
Indian Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has condemned the incident. In a tweet, he wrote, “Saddened to hear about the unfortunate incident… Our daughters are our honour… A high-level inquiry has been ordered into the incident… Whoever is found guilty will Strict action will be taken against them”.

As the matter made headlines, the University Pro-Chancellor issued a statement, saying the rumour which is circulating through the media about objectionable clips is totally false and baseless. He said the accused filmed herself and shared it with her boyfriend.
Meanwhile, law enforcers denied any incident of death or injury amid the controversy.
Amid the contrasting claims, several students of the varsity took to social media claiming that the authorities are trying to cover up the disgraceful incident. #Chandigarhuniversity is also currently trending on the microblogging platform.
