KARACHI: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Friday that the chapter of conspiracies hatched in the last one year has been buried, the desecration of martyrs’ memorials and attacks on military installations are the darkest chapter in the country’s history.

Addressing the foundation stone laying ceremony of the K-IV water supply project here, he said that the string of May 9 riots was connected with conspirators sitting abroad.

“No one should object if we punish arsonists according to our law, as the United States did to its own citizens for the January 6, 2021, storming of the Capitol building. Justice demands that these criminals be punished. They should be tried like the rioters of the Capitol building. If this punishment was legal, then no one should object if we do it under our law to desecrate our martyrs,” he asserted.

Recalling his recent interaction with the families of the martyrs, he said that their loved ones had sacrificed for the country but the arsonists had desecrated their memorials.

The Prime Minister said that a person who always accuses others of looting gets caught on corruption charges.

“What kind of politics is this?” he asked.

He said that the leaders of MQM and People’s Party gave the message of national unity which is necessary for the development of the country. He said that the coalition government faced major challenges through collective wisdom, including floods, inflation, the sinister ambitions of the IMF and the politics of chaos, which culminated in the darkest day of May 9.

Vowing to restore Pakistan’s lost glory, the prime minister lamented the unnecessary delay in the K-IV project that was meant to provide drinking water to millions of residents of Karachi. Shahbaz Sharif asked the concerned ministries to provide uninterrupted funds for the completion of the project without any delay. He said that this project is most important for him because the people of Shahr Quaid are lacking drinking water.

The Prime Minister assured that he will keep this project as his priority in the upcoming budget and provide maximum funds for its early completion.

On this occasion, Water Resources Minister Syed Khursheed Shah said that this project is very important to meet the water needs of Karachi. Naval Affairs Minister Faisal Sabzwari said that the K-IV project is also part of the agreement between the MQM and the ruling coalition. He said that the unnecessary delay in the project led to huge increase in cost. He said that the entire province has serious reservations about the census. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said that this project, which started in 2002, used to be an example of wrong planning and it was delayed a lot. He urged the federal government to ensure the provision of funds for the timely completion of the project.

Sindh Governor Kamran Tesuri said that the project is moving forward under the leadership of Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bilawal.

He said that for the first time the federal and provincial governments are on the same page to implement the much-delayed project. He said that incidents like May 9 united the nation and thwarted the ambitions of miscreants. Meanwhile, addressing a gathering of businessmen and investors here, Shehbaz urged them to help the government overcome several challenges and take the lead in creating employment opportunities and boosting exports.

He said that Pakistan is facing many challenges and the economy can grow only when there is political stability.

He said that the common man wants health and education facilities, service delivery and solutions to everyday problems. Shahbaz Sharif said that even when his government was formed a year ago, inflation was very high.

He pointed out that the current difficult economic situation is due to political instability. “The previous government broke its agreement with the International Monetary Fund and then the country was devastated by the worst climatic floods of this century,” he said.

The Prime Minister said that the federal government has spent 100 billion rupees – 72 billion rupees through the Benazir Support Program and 20 billion rupees through the National Disaster Management Authority for the rehabilitation of flood victims, besides the provincial governments have spent billions for the same purpose. have spent He said that another reason for the economic difficulties was the rise in international oil prices and the substantial increase in the oil import bill.

Shahbaz Sharif said that the International Monetary Fund imposed strict conditions for its loan program and his government fulfilled all these conditions. He said that many friendly countries came forward and filled the financial gap faced by Pakistan without any conditions. “Brother countries want Pakistan to develop and the Chinese government and even their commercial banks have taken loans,” he said, adding that the government has sincerely tried to take advantage of the IMF programme. And the Chinese Prime Minister also cooperated with Pakistan.

Talking about the political situation, he said that in the last one year, the country has seen political instability and division in every section of the society has shaken the foundation of Pakistan and created a certain mentality which is harmful to the nation. .

Addressing a function at the Textile Expo here, Shahbaz Sharif urged the exporters to come up with innovative and unique ideas to boost exports which would help the country earn valuable foreign exchange.

“Despite various challenges, we have very strong, very futuristic, and very hardworking entrepreneurs who have gradually built Pakistan’s export culture,” he said.

Welcoming the foreign delegates, the Prime Minister said that he was happy to know that more than 400 foreign delegates from 60 countries are visiting, which shows that Pakistan is a worthy destination for foreign visitors, buyers and traders. Value is the destination.

Shahbaz Sharif also appreciated the industrialists, exporters and experts who played an important role in promoting Pakistan’s textile and leather exports. He said that Pakistan’s industry has now changed and has changed to air jet looms, ginning, spinning and weaving. The Prime Minister said that the textile sector accounts for 60 percent of the total exports while 40 percent of the labor force is absorbed in this sector. There is no doubt that it is one of the largest sectors of Pakistan’s economy.
