Lahore: Defense Minister Khawaja Asif on Friday claimed that Chief Minister Punjab Pervaiz Elahi will release former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, who recently escaped an assassination attempt in Wazirabad.
Addressing the workers’ convention in Sialkot, he said that ‘Imran Khan Elahi was called the biggest criminal of Punjab and today this incident has happened under this ‘biggest criminal’.
Criticizing Imran, Asif said no medical tests were conducted on the injured and the crime scene was not cordoned off, which showed a plan in motion to push things in a “certain direction”.
He said that the FIR of the incident could not be registered because the PTI is trying to register a sensational FIR by naming Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and a senior military officer.
The defense minister said that there is less room for doubt after the video statement of the attacker. “Three videos of his statement went viral. He regrets that he failed to hit his target,” he added.
Khawaja Asif said that the bullets found at the scene indicate the use of SMG. He said that it is important to bring before the people details that seem trivial as PTI can use them to run a propaganda campaign.
