ISLAMABAD: The Attock Jail administration has decided to conduct a security audit of all staff following an alleged “coded conversation” between a jail official and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan.
Sources told the correspondent that the recording of the jail official’s conversation with Khan revealed some words which the administration was unable to understand.
Complete bio data of more than 150 jail staff in Attock Jail will be sent to Special Branch and other agencies for security clearance.
Orders have also been issued to immediately prepare a report through security clearance regarding the affiliation of the employees posted in Attock Jail with any extremist organization and other activities including political party affiliation.
Sources say that after the geofencing, the use of WhatsApp by jail staff has been banned.
Built in 1906, the number of inmates in this jail is usually more than 1,000. However, at present there are more than 700 inmates in the jail and only C class facilities are available to them.
Sources say that in view of security concerns, the plan to transfer more than 100 prisoners to Adiala and other jails is also under consideration.
Khan was sent to jail after an Islamabad court convicted him in the Tosha Khana case and sentenced him to three years in prison.
The PTI chairman, during a meeting with his lawyer on Monday, conveyed his concerns regarding the prison environment where flies during the day and insects at night occupy his cell.
The party has also approached the Islamabad High Court for their Adiala transfer and A-class facilities.
