Conte wants more clinical spurs after draw

Antonio Conte was delighted to see his side create chances against Eintracht Frankfurt but admits they need to be more clinical after being held to a goalless draw in the Champions League Group D match.

Looking to hit back at the weekend’s loss to Premier League rivals Arsenal, the visitors produced a largely motivated display but were let down by poor finishing.

Harry Kane came close to converting a Son Heung-min cross before swiping a shot wide in the first half, while Ivan Perisic saw a deflected strike just wide of the far post before the break.

But the hosts also had chances, with Hugo Lloris needing to make a great save to keep out Ingar Naff’s volley from close range and Jasper Lindström headed over from a good position.

“It was a good match,” Conte said. We played with great intensity. “I think we need to be more clinical. We created a lot of scoring chances. It’s not easy to play away from this environment, I think my players coped well.

“In football you have to score goals. I think we probably deserved more for a big effort for the whole team. The most important thing for me is to create chances.”

The draw means Tottenham are second in Group D with four points after three games, two points behind leaders Sporting Lisbon, who lost 4-1 in Marseille on Tuesday.

Eintracht Frankfurt, meanwhile, are joint third on points with Spurs but on goal difference.

Useful Point, But Could Have Been More.
After losing 2-0 to Sporting in the North London derby at the weekend and 3-1 to Arsenal in their last Champions League game, Spurs fans will be wanting a response from their side in Germany.

Conte fielded the same XI that started against the Gunners but, initially, it was the spirited hosts who started strongly.

They outplayed their opponents in their own half at times but showed more urgency with better passing as Tottenham took control of the game.

Kane and Son’s link-up was also encouraging with the latter setting up two good chances for his teammate in the first half, but Kane was unable to make the most of either of them.

Spurs struggled to build on that in the second half, but with back-to-back home games coming up in the Champions League it should be seen as a good point as they look to progress beyond the group stage.

“The game was good for us and we played here with a great personality,” Conte told BT Sport.

“We’ll see [what happens] in a week when we have another match against them.”
