CTD operation in Peshawar, one terrorist killed, five arrested

A militant was killed and five others arrested in an exchange of fire during an operation by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in Peshawar’s Telaband area, a statement said on Tuesday.

The statement said that the terrorists belong to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and are involved in more than 20 cases of extortion.

CTD said militants were involved in grenade attacks and firing incidents.

It added that “the arrested terrorists demanded Rs 50 lakh from a citizen named Imtiaz and on his refusal, the terrorist attacked the victim’s house with a grenade and fired at him”.

The statement said that two Kalashnikovs, six hand grenades, two pistols and cartridges were recovered from the attackers, adding that all the terrorists, including the deceased, belonged to Afghanistan.

Four terrorists, three detainees killed

On February 14, an attack on a CTD squad in the North Waziristan tribal region resulted in the death of 4 terrorists and 3 detainees in an exchange of fire.

A law enforcement official said that CTD personnel were taking three detainees from Miran Shah to Bannu when they were ambushed by terrorists near Mir Ali Bypass. The prisoner and four attackers were killed.

The spokesman added that the assailants wanted to release their accomplices.

“The eliminated terrorists were involved in grenade attacks on security forces and police as well as targeted killings, particularly the attack on the Kent Police Station and the martyrdom of Constable Iftikhar.”

The spokesman of the security agency said that four sub-machine guns, cartridges and other ammunition were recovered from the dead.

After the attack, heavy parties of security forces and police launched a search operation in the area to trace the fleeing terrorists, CTD added.

The insurgency has reared its ugly head since the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended a ceasefire last year with an increase in terrorist attacks across Pakistan – particularly in the northern and northwestern parts of the country. is rearing
