Death toll in suicide attack in Khyber district has risen to four.

Khyber: The death toll in a suicide attack in Bara Bazar area of Khyber district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa rose to four as two more injured policemen succumbed to their injuries.

A policeman was martyred and 10 others injured when a terrorist blew himself up after police prevented him and his accomplice from entering the tehsil compound – which houses the Bara police station, government offices and the counter-terrorism department. (CTD) is located in a cell. ).

However, more deaths were reported later, increasing the death toll.

KP Inspector General Akhtar Hayat confirmed that the attack was led by two terrorists who entered the compound through the central and rear gates. Both terrorists were killed in the attack.

Sharing updates on the matter, police said that a portion of CTD’s cell was gutted after the blast. Rescue and search operation is going on while bomb disposal squad and CTD teams are present at the spot.

Meanwhile, Rescue 1122 officials said that 10 policemen have been shifted to different hospitals for treatment.

Earlier, Hayatabad Medical Complex management said that one body and four injured – including three policemen – have been brought to the medical facility.

Some of the injured were also shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Dogra Khyber Agency.

Initially, the police said that smoke was seen rising from the blast site. He said that after the blast there was also a report of heavy firing.

KP Police faced another attack last night when two policemen were martyred and two others were injured in firing in Regi area of Peshawar.

Police say that unknown armed men opened fire on the policemen at the entry post near Regi Model Town police station and fled. The injured policemen were shifted to Khyber Teaching Hospital for medical assistance.

The martyrs have been identified as head constable Wajid and driver Farman.

Pakistan has seen an increase in terrorist attacks since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in August 2021 and has called on the interim rulers to take decisive action against terrorists, including the TTP, responsible for cross-border attacks.

According to a statistical report released by the independent think tank Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), terrorist activities in the country have increased by 79% during the first half of 2023.

Pakistani security forces have also stepped up their response to terrorism and have killed at least 236 militants across the country while arresting 295 suspected militants during the first six months of 2023.
