Deaths in Sindh: At least three people have died from the disease in different parts of Sindh, the provincial health department confirmed on Wednesday, amid warnings from health experts that a malaria outbreak could spread in the province.
In a report released on Wednesday, the Sindh Health Department said that around 942 cases of malaria have been confirmed in the flood-affected areas during the last 24 hours. It added that during the last 24 hours, around 386 cases of dengue fever were also confirmed across the province, of which 253 cases were reported in Karachi alone.
It added that Tharparkar and Umarkot reported three deaths, one each from malaria and dengue respectively. The third fatality was a woman who died of a severe case of diarrhoea.
About 340 people have died from diarrhea since July.
Health experts suggested that the government push international donors to provide mosquito nets, warning that malaria could become an epidemic in flood-prone areas.
Dr. Jawad Asghar, an epidemiologist and expert on surveillance systems, recommended the government to identify malaria hotspots in flood-prone areas so that they can control the malaria epidemic.

He added that the government should request a large number of mosquito nets from donor countries to save thousands of precious lives.
