Islamabad: Deputy Chairman of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Zahir Shah has resigned from his post due to personal reasons.
According to the publication, Shah tendered his resignation to NAB Chairman Lt Gen (retd) Nazir Ahmed Butt on Monday.
Although no official statement has yet been issued by NAB about Shah’s resignation, NAB sources confirmed that he resigned due to personal reasons.
According to sources, Shah has submitted his resignation to Chairman NAB after the meeting. He further said that Shah may be given another important responsibility in the anti-corruption watchdog.
Before assuming the post of Deputy Chairman, Shah held the post of Director General of NAB Rawalpindi and Director of Operations at NAB Headquarters.
After the resignation of former chairman NAB Aftab Sultan, he has also been acting chairman of NAB.
It was Shah’s second resignation from NAB in a week as Prosecutor General Accountability Justice (retd) Syed Asghar Haider tendered his resignation citing personal reasons a few days ago.
Asghar’s tenure was scheduled to end in February 2024. An investigation into the £190m scandal has been completed and a reference was due to be lodged with the Accountability Court this month – which cannot happen without the approval of the Prosecutor General.
PG has sent his resignation to Chairman NAB and it has been received at Prime Minister House.
The Prosecutor General confirmed his resignation, saying it was given for personal reasons.
The PTI government extended Asghar Haider’s service by 3 years through an ordinance in February 2021.
