World number one Novak Djokovic continued his excellent start to 2023 by beating Hubert Hurkacz to reach the semi-finals of the Dubai Tennis Championships.
The 35-year-old Serb beat Harkaz of Poland 6-3 7-5 to take his record to 15-0 so far this year.
Djokovic, who is chasing a sixth win in Dubai, will next face Daniel Medvedev for a place in Saturday’s final.
Australian Open finalist Medvedev beat Borna Coric 6-3 6-2 on his way to his third title of the year.
Meanwhile, defending champion Andre Robleau advanced with a win over Butk van de Zandschlap.
The second seed beat his Dutch opponent 6-3 7-6 (7-3) and will play Alexander Zverev in the last four as the German overcame Lorenzo Sonego 7-5 6-4.
Djokovic needed just 71 minutes to see off Harkaz and looks in good form as he looks to win his third tournament of the year.
“I found a rhythm on my serve during the second set,” he said. “I’m really happy with how I played under pressure.”
Meanwhile, Djokovic is awaiting a response to his application for an exemption from visa rules on vaccines to enter the United States ahead of the Masters 1000 event at Indian Wells starting March 8.
The draw for the tournament will take place on Monday, and Djokovic said: “Whatever the decision is before the draw, if I am not allowed, I will withdraw before the draw.”
