Eid-ul-Adha: Banks will remain closed for four days.

KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Wednesday announced that the central bank will remain closed from June 29 to 30 due to Eid-ul-Adha.

As a result, all commercial banks across the country will also remain closed for four days i.e. Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The federal government had approved a three-day holiday on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha a day ago.

In a statement, the Cabinet Division said: “[…] It is for general information that the Prime Minister has approved public holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha as follows:

  • 29 to 30 June 2023 (Thursday and Friday) for offices that operate five days a week. And
  • 29 June to 1 July 2023 (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) for offices working 6 days a week.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee on Monday sighted the Zil Hajj moon in Pakistan, after which Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated across the country on June 29 (Thursday).

This decision was taken after the meeting of Rawit Hilal Committee under the chairmanship of Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad.

The Chairman of Ruet-e-Hilal Committee said that evidences of moon sighting were received from various cities including Karachi and Lahore.
