On Saturday that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has written to the provincial government to hold local elections in Sindh.
In a letter written to the Sindh government, the ECP said that it wants to hold local elections in Sindh immediately and sought a response from the provincial government by October 31.
The ECP has also sought a report from the Sindh government on the security situation and other arrangements for the local elections.
On October 4, the ECP directed the provincial government to hold the second phase of local elections in Karachi’s metropolitan center in late October.
This directive came after the Supreme Poll Body rejected the Sindh government’s request to postpone the elections.
The Election Commission had earlier announced that the second phase of local body elections in the province would be held on October 23 in Karachi, Hyderabad and adjoining districts, after which the elections were postponed twice due to heavy rains and floods. Later he decided to hold elections only in Karachi Division.
But with the flood water receding and the flood situation improving, the ECP said there was no reason not to hold the polls.
