England Will Rely ‘100%’ on Security Advice Given During Pakistan Tour, Says Ben Stokes

Captain Ben Stokes says England players will rely “100%” on security advice for their trip to Pakistan for next month’s Test series.

England will play their first Test in Pakistan in 17 years from December 1, but fears have been heightened since the gun attack on Imran Khan.

England’s security adviser Reg Dickson has visited Pakistan and may return in the coming weeks to reassess security.

Stokes said he was the best man to assess the situation.

“We can’t really comment on anything until we get all the information back from the reg.

“But whoever comes back with the reg players and the people who go on that tour trust him 100% because he’s a guy you trust with your life.”

Deposed prime minister and former cricket captain Khan was gunned down during a protest march in the eastern city of Wazirabad last week.

On Saturday, England bowler Mark Wood admitted it was “anxiety”.

England played seven T20Is in the country in September and October, their first tour since 2005.

No international cricket was played in Pakistan for six years after the Sri Lankan team was attacked by gunmen in 2009, with Pakistan playing the majority of its home matches in the United Arab Emirates.

Both England’s men and women were originally on tour last year but withdrew on a month’s notice due to security concerns.

England are understood to be planning to travel, hoping to go ahead with a three-Test series.

Dickson was in Pakistan during the recent T20 League and has now gone to Australia where England are playing the T20 World Cup.

He was supposed to be in Australia for the upcoming one-day international series, but plans may change after the assassination attempt on Khan.
