The European Parliament approved new rules on Tuesday that will introduce a single charging port for mobile phones, tablets and cameras in the EU by 2024, a world first for iPhone maker Apple over its rivals. Expect to impress.

The vote reaffirms an earlier agreement between EU institutions and would make USB-C connectors used by Android-based devices an EU standard, allowing Apple to change charging ports for iPhones and other devices. Will be forced.

Among the major suppliers of electronic devices to European consumers, Apple is expected to be the most affected, but analysts also expect a potential positive impact as it encourages buyers to buy the company’s latest gadgets without USB-C. Can motivate.

Analysts say the deal also covers e-readers, earbuds and other technologies, meaning Samsung, Huawei and other device makers could be affected.

Apple, Samsung, and Huawei were not immediately available for comment.
