Brussels: EU industry chief Thierry Breton will meet OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in San Francisco next month to discuss how the company will implement the bloc’s global rules on artificial intelligence (AI). , EU officials said on Tuesday.
Bretton will also discuss an AI deal with Altman aimed at bringing OpenAI to a group of European and non-European companies in 2026, EU officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity. Getting AI rules to apply before implementation.
Altman angered Breton last week by threatening to leave Europe if the bloc’s upcoming AI rules become too difficult to comply with.
In response, Breton, who drafted the new laws, said they were non-negotiable.
“Breton will discuss the practical aspects of implementing the AI Act. It will be a working session, with an in-depth discussion on datasets,” an EU official said.
Last week, after a meeting with Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, Bratton said the US technology company and the European Commission would discuss a voluntary AI agreement to help companies anticipate the implementation of AI legislation.
