Michael Keane scored a stunning long-range strike in the 90th minute to salvage a Premier League draw for Everton against Tottenham in a game that saw both sides finish with 10 men.

Defender Kane stepped up from behind to curl a 25-yard drive into the top corner, a point that lifted Shaun Dye’s men out of the relegation zone.

Harry Kane gave Tottenham the lead from the penalty spot in the second half after Kane himself fouled Christian Romero in the area.

The game was an uninspiring contest until the flashpoint on 57 minutes, when Toffees midfielder Abdoulaye Doukour was shown a straight red card after pushing Kane off the ball.

The England captain’s goal looked like giving Christian Stellini a triumphant start in Tottenham’s first game as interim manager after Antonio Conte left the club by mutual consent.

But substitute Lucas Moura was also sent off for a nasty challenge on Kane and the former Burnley man shook off the knock to equalize and spark destruction at Goodison Park.

The point moves Everton up three places to 15th while Tottenham move up to fourth on goal difference, although they have two games in hand with fifth-placed Manchester United.

Kane in the thick of the action

It was a stalemate for the best part of an hour as both sides struggled to create any clear-cut chances in the final third.

But Kane was in action when he challenged Demarai Gray on the halfway line, an incident that Ducour took exception to.

Pushes were exchanged before the Everton midfielder put his hands in the face of Kane, who fell to the turf and was shown a straight red by referee David Cote.

Kane underwent lengthy physio but the Everton bench were clearly unhappy with their response to the incident.

The England captain shrugged off the incident to open the scoring from the penalty spot 10 minutes later, sending international team-mate Jordan Pickford the wrong way to register his 15th league goal against Everton. .

Kane could have netted in the opening period but a spin and shot was blocked on the line by Kane, who sent a free header wide.

Son Heung-min, ridiculed here four years ago for suffering a serious ankle injury on Andre Gomes, had the best chance in the first half but shot straight at Pickford.

The result moves Tottenham into the Champions League places with nine games in hand, but Stellini’s side have now failed to win in their last six games away from home.

Former Clarets proving critical

It was a crucial game for Everton after wins over fellow strugglers West Ham and Bournemouth and a point at Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

Gray made it narrow in the second minute and Ducour sent over a free header as he pressed for the opener.

Idrissa Goye missed a great second-half chance when he fired from the edge of the area and was tipped over the crossbar by the returning Hugo Lloris.

It eventually set up Kane’s superb goal to salvage something from the game, the draw taking Everton level with West Ham, Bournemouth and Forest on 27 points at the bottom of the table.

Without a recognized centre-forward – Dominic Calvert-Lyon remains out injured – Dye is now regularly lying to his former Burnley players for points, winning goals from fellow former Clarets James Tarkowski and Dwight McNeil in recent home victories. followed by Kane’s strike.
