LAHORE: Former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar has claimed that recently retired Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa met him.

Bajwa, who hung up his boots in November and has drawn the ire of PTI chairman Imran Khan since his sacking in April, met the former chief justice at his residence in Lahore last week.

However, the two former government officials have remained tight-lipped about the meeting and the details have been kept under wraps.

Now former Chief Justice Nisar told that the meeting was held at the request of the former army chief as he wanted to meet the retired judge to appreciate his services to the country.

According to Justice (r) Nisar, the former army chief had assured him that the dam fund created during his tenure was safe. He also dispelled speculations of misappropriation of funds. He also said that Pakistan’s economy needs to be fixed.

Justice (retd) Nisar was appointed as the highest judge of Pakistan in 2016 and was given judicial robes in 2019.

The dam fund was originally set up in July 2018 on the orders of Justice (retd) Nisar. He had directed the collection of funds for the Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand dams and the Supreme Court’s website specifically sought donations for the construction of these reservoirs.

Later, former Prime Minister Imran Khan also supported this fund and appealed to people to donate to it.

Saqib Nisar’s tenure has been controversial due to some of the judgments given by the Supreme Court and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) has accused him of being “biased” towards its leader Nawaz Sharif.
