The federal government has urged the Supreme Court to take cognizance of the ongoing unrest in Punjab, saying the Lahore High Court judgment does not meet legal parameters.
The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday reinstated the provincial cabinet and Pervaiz Elahi as chief minister after he assured the court that he would not dissolve the Punjab Assembly after regaining control of the office.
On Saturday, Railway Minister Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and Food Security Minister Tariq Bashir Cheema held a press conference in Lahore and demanded the Supreme Court to take suo motu notice of the unrest in Punjab.
Sanaullah said that the governor has the constitutional right to ask the chief minister for a vote of confidence if he intends to dissolve the provincial assembly to gratify someone’s ego.
He added that he would not allow the two provincial assemblies to fall prey to the arrogance of [PTI Chairman] Imran Khan. “PDM is trying to ensure that all assemblies complete their tenure,” he said.
The PML-N leader further said that if PTI and PML-Q had the numbers, they would not have run away from the trust vote.
Rana said he sacrificed his political capital to save the country from default. However, Imran Khan tries to push the country towards chaos every day.
He further said that he does not intend to run away from the elections. In fact, they are preparing their candidates for the general elections.
Rana further said that the Lahore High Court provided final relief to Parvez Elahi. He added that he had heard that PTI was offering Rs 20 million to its separate MPA.
Meanwhile, Rafiq expressed anger over the Lahore High Court’s decision to reinstate Parvez Elahi as Chief Minister, saying that this decision does not meet the legal parameters. He added that his legal team is considering options to challenge the verdict in the Supreme Court.
He further said that Imran wants to repeat the same mistakes that other parties have done in the past and then give up.
“Imran wants the establishment to join politics and help him regain power,” he said.
