The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday arrested 19 social media activists involved in trolling posts against the Pakistan Army after the helicopter crash in Balochistan in August.
According to Investigation Unit Zahid Gushkuri, significant progress has been made in the defamation case against the state institution.
The FIA ​​has detained 19 people who “created, used and promoted” hashtags on microblogging site Twitter to malign the army’s image.
Further, the agency has initiated investigations against more social media activists on the same charges while registering cases against 25.
According to sources, nine cases were registered in Gujranwala circle, six in Faisalabad circle and eight in Islamabad.
According to sources, 10 cases were registered in Lahore while 2 trawlers were also seized from the provincial capital.
The Ministry of Interior had given special permission to take action against social media activists involved in insulting campaign against Pakistan Army.
