KARACHI: Former President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf was laid to rest at a military cemetery in the port city on Tuesday, 48 hours after he breathed his last in Dubai.

The funeral prayers of the former Chief of Army Staff were performed shortly before his burial at the Polo Ground of Malir Cantonment.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Mustafa Kamal, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad, former Army Chief General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa and General (retd) Ashfaq Parvez participated in the funeral prayer. Parvez Kayani.

Well-known politicians Farooq Sattar, Amir Maqam, Aminul Haque, Faisal Sabzwari and other eminent personalities also participated in the funeral prayer of the former president.

After several delays in the flight, the body of the former army chief was brought to Karachi in a special plane from the UAE on Monday night.

Before leaving for Karachi, his mortal remains were bathed in Sonapur, Dubai.

Along with the body of the deceased, the widow of the former army chief and her children were also brought from the Gulf state.

On arrival, the plane was parked near the old terminal at the airport. The body and the victim’s family were then transported to their destination from the old terminal under tight security.

The bereaved family formally approached the Pakistan Consulate in Dubai on Sunday and sought permission to move the body.

It should be noted that General (retd) Musharraf died on Sunday at the age of 79. He was being treated for amyloidosis at the American Hospital in Dubai for a long time.

It should be noted that the former president’s mother was buried in Dubai while his father was buried in Karachi.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz supremo Nawaz Sharif and other politicians prayed for the forgiveness of the former president – who has not returned home since 2016.
