Fuel charge adjustment for January: Rs 1.71 per unit tariff for KE, Rs 0.48 increase for other firms

KARACHI: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has increased the electricity rates for customers of KE and XWDiscos by Rs 1.71 per unit and Rs 0.48 per unit respectively for the monthly Fuel Charge Adjustment (FCA) for January 2023.

Meanwhile, in another decision, the power regulator has allowed the federal government to waive Rs 65 billion power subsidy for the industrial and agricultural sectors, bringing down the price of electricity for the two sectors by Rs 12.13 per unit and Rs. 3.60 per unit has been increased.

Nepra has approved an increase of Rs 1.71 per unit in the price of electricity for K-Electric (KE) consumers under Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) for January 2023. An increase in electricity rates of Rs 2.69 per unit was demanded, but a much lower increase was approved.

The notification said that K Electric will reflect the fuel charges adjustment with respect to January 2023 in the billing month of March 2023. The tariff hike will be applicable to all categories of customers except Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) and KEK Lifeline customers.

Further, K Electric has been directed to separately disclose the FCA in bills on the basis of units billed to consumers for the respective month in which the adjustment is concerned. The notification added that KE will reflect the fuel charges adjustment for January 2023 in the billing month of March 2023.
