Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Saturday claimed that former Chief of Army Staff General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa asked him to replace Usman Buzdar with Aleem Khan as Punjab Chief Minister.
“General (retd) Bajwa’s demand to remove Buzdar was strange,” Khan – who had recently leveled allegations against the former army chief – said in an interview to a private television channel.
Khan, who was ousted as prime minister in a no-confidence vote in April, said: “General (retd) Bajwa asked to remove Usman Buzdar. He should insist on making Aleem Khan the chief minister of Punjab.”
The former Prime Minister said that he told General (r) Bajwa that Aleem had many allegations against him and in the light of these allegations, he could not appoint him as the chief minister.
The former prime minister revealed that the current Chief Minister of Punjab, Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, did not want to make Aleem the Chief Minister of the province.
Terming all those involved in ousting his government as “Mir Jafar and Mir Sadiq”, he said: “Whatever happened to the PTI during the last seven months was due to the policies of former COS General Bajwa. was from.”
He claimed that “General (R) Bajwa will say that no one will take ticket from PTI and Muslim League (N) will form the new government.”
Khan alleged that General (retd) Bajwa controlled the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) during his regime.
NAB was under the control of Bajwa. So he decided who would go in and who would be released. The PTI chief said that it was not in our hands.
He alleged that the former army chief would monitor who should be arrested and who not.
“We had no authority. Those who did, provided relief. NAB was not under our control. They [the military] had influence everywhere,” he said.
The former prime minister added that he was told to leave the handling of the economy and accountability to him.

Commenting on the dissolution of the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assemblies, Khan revealed that he will dissolve the assemblies this month.
The PTI chief added that while Chief Minister Elahi believes that the government should last for a while, he will stand by the PTI’s decision to dissolve the assembly.

Criticizing the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)-led government, the former prime minister said the multi-party coalition was “trying hard” to disqualify him.
“[PML-N] supremo Nawaz Sharif is trying to close all cases against him and disqualify me,” he added.
Highlighting the current situation in the country, Khan reiterated his call for elections linking economic development with political stability.
“Whether they hold elections now or 10 months or a year later, they [PDM] will lose,” he claimed.
