Geo and Jang Group President Imran Aslam passed away at the age of 70, JEE News reported on Friday.
Journalism giant Aslam had been unwell for some time and was undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
He was born in 1952 in Madras, India. He studied in London in the 70s and had a distinguished career in journalism.
Geo News, Geo Entertainment and Geo Super were launched under his leadership. He was also a founding member of the English language newspaper The News.
The journalist was also the Chief News Editor and Senior Editor of The News. He also had a career in scriptwriting and wrote more than 60 plays that appeared on stage and television.
The journalist’s brother Riyaz Aslam said that his sister and Aslam’s son will arrive from London.
Imran Aslam’s son Taimur said that his father’s funeral prayers will be offered near his house after Asr prayers and the burial will take place at DHA, Phase 8 graveyard.
Condolences are pouring in.
As soon as the news of his death came, people from all walks of life condoled Aslam’s death.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah expressed condolences on Aslam’s death.
Sindh Chief Minister said that Imran Aslam’s services in journalism and literature will always be remembered.
JUI(F) chief Fazlur Rehman also expressed grief over Aslam’s death.
“I am deeply saddened by the demise of the Geo and Jang Group president,” he added, adding that his journalistic services would be remembered.
