ISLAMABAD: US tech giant Google has registered itself as a company with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), official documents said.
The tech company has registered itself with the SECP as per the “Removal and Blocking of Illegal Online Content (Procedure, Monitoring and Security) Rules, 2021”, allowing social media companies to open offices in the country.

Information Technology and Telecommunication Minister Syed Aminul Haque told Geo News that after the registration of the American multinational technology company, other social media platforms will also set up offices in Pakistan.
“TikTok will soon set up its office in Pakistan. Companies are hesitant due to lack of trust and conflicting policies,” he said, adding that his ministry would extend full support to foreign companies.
The government of Pakistan has made registration mandatory for companies under social media laws and in this context Google has registered itself as a company.
If Google’s server is built in Pakistan, the data will be safe. Even now the data of all companies including social media is protected outside Pakistan.
Earlier today, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari visited Metaz – Facebook’s parent company – Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore.
During his visit, Bilawal highlighted the achievements and great potential of Pakistan’s IT sector. He expressed a strong desire to increase cooperation between the social media company and Pakistan.
