Govt has approved deployment of army in Katcha area of Punjab.

Sources said that to assist the Punjab government in the grand operation against illegals, the federal government on Saturday gave its formal approval for the deployment of troops in the Katcha area.

Sources familiar with the matter told JEE News that the Cabinet has approved the circulation summary for the deployment of military forces in the Katcha area along the Indus River.

Sources said that the Punjab government had requested the federal government to provide military support for the operation till April 24.

According to sources, the government has also requested an extension of the deployment till May 5, if the operation cannot be concluded on the scheduled date. The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has revealed in a report that investigators have traced the presence of terrorist organizations in the Katcha area.

These revelations were made in a meeting chaired by caretaker Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi to review the grand operation launched by the police force in the slum areas.

The report said that terrorist organizations were present in the slum areas. It was also revealed that the terrorists were in touch with their foreign handlers and anti-state elements.

The participants decided that more than 11,000 personnel of the Punjab Police will take part in the grand operation aimed at destroying terrorist hideouts and establishing permanent infrastructure in the area.
