In a video statement, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar announced that as a result of the decision, the price of petrol has been fixed at Rs 214 80 paise per liter and the price of diesel at Rs 227 80 paise per litre.

In light of winter, the government, according to the finance minister, has decided to maintain the prices of kerosene and light diesel oil at Rs 171.83 and Rs 169 respectively.

The minister added that the government has abolished levy on kerosene and light diesel oil. He also claimed that the decision was taken to maintain despite the ‘increase’ in the prices of petroleum products in the global market.

“All these decisions have been taken as per the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the prices will remain in place till January 15, 2023,” the finance minister explained.

In a later tweet, FinMin said that “prices have been maintained to provide relief to the common man despite the increase in the prices of these products in the international markets!”

It should be noted that since the start of the outgoing quarter (October- December) of the fiscal year 2022-23, the prices have cumulatively declined by:

  • Rs22.63 per litre in petrol price
  • Rs19.63 per litre in the price of high-speed diesel
  • Rs28.28 per litre in the price of light diesel oil
  • Rs30.19 per litre in the price of kerosene oil

The government last slashed prices of petroleum products by up to Rs10 per litre on December 15.
