Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has said that any statement regarding the allocation of funds to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for conducting elections in Punjab will be premature until the Parliament takes a decision.

The minister said on Wednesday after the Supreme Court ordered to hold elections in Punjab on May 14, which is considered a turning point for Pakistan’s political landscape. .

A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court unanimously ordered the elections in Punjab and termed the ECP’s order to delay the elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as ‘unconstitutional’.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Atta Bandial, Justice Muneeb Akhtar and Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan also ordered the Election Commission to hold elections in Punjab.

Responding to a question on funding for the ECP, Sanaullah asserted that any decision taken by Parliament would be binding on the government after the resolution tabled today, which is the full mandate of Parliament. represents

The resolution proposed by Sanaullah will be tabled in the lower house of parliament on Wednesday as mentioned by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday.

Expressing disagreement with the action of the Supreme Court, the Prime Minister said that the National Assembly will pass a resolution rejecting the decision today. Earlier on April 4, the federal cabinet had unanimously rejected the Supreme Court order.

Sanaullah also said that the upcoming elections will not bear any fruit for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan.

On the other hand, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) is not in any danger from the election, the interior minister stressed. He reiterated that the government wants to hold elections on the same day across the country.

Following the Supreme Court’s order, the Election Commission has issued a notification to start the stalled polling process on April 10.

Reacting to the development in response to a question, the minister said that the ECP is an independent body and is free to take decisions about holding elections but its decision is not binding on the government.

He said that if the three-judge bench wants to send the entire Parliament home, it should do it once.
