Elon Musk, who eventually acquired Twitter for $44 billion and left people wondering how rich he would be, is still the richest person in the world with a current net worth of $212 billion.
Musk’s net worth has fallen by about $58.6 billion since the start of the year, according to the Billionaires Index.
Musk is an extraordinarily wealthy man whose fortune exceeds that of the world’s second-richest man, Bernard Arnault, chairman of French luxury group LVMH, worth more than $70bn.
The Tesla chief was named the world’s richest person in January 2022 when he was worth $273.5 billion, JEE News reported.
“Mr. Musk has reached the level of wealth, adjusted for inflation, achieved by the richest person in modern history,” wrote at the time.
After becoming Twitter’s largest shareholder, Musk announced his bid in April, offering to buy the platform for $54.20 per share.
Although the billionaire raised $46.5 billion for his bid, several factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war, hurt his net worth.
Musk, who is also the chief of SpaceX, was also recently named the richest man by Forbes. At that time, his wealth was estimated at 219 billion dollars.
While Forbe’s annual World Billionaires list is published every year and uses exchange rates and stock prices to calculate fortunes, the outlet’s real-time billionaires list is updated daily.
According to the Realtime Billionaires List, Musk is currently worth $221.5bn.
Forbes noted that “due to the sale of billions of dollars of Tesla stock late last year, and the taxes from those sales,” Musk is still about $68 billion richer than last year.
