After his refusal, PCB has also resisted playing World Cup matches in India this year. According to ESPNcricinfo, discussions have started regarding the neutral venue for the matches against Pakistan during the ICC World Cup. Bangladesh is likely to emerge as a neutral location for Pakistan.
“The idea came up during board meetings in Dubai, where India’s presence in the Asia Cup – and subsequently Pakistan’s presence in the World Cup – were agenda items for both members.
“It has only been mentioned as an option and there has been no formal discussion on the matter, but the PCB would like to point out that India will not play in Pakistan in the Asia Cup. There could be a possible impact on CC’s Champions Trophy. To be held in Pakistan in February 2025,” the cricket website reported.
It should be noted here that UAE, Oman, Sri Lanka or even England are being considered to host India’s matches during Asia Cup 2023. The India-Pakistan matches will be played at neutral venues and if India qualifies, the final will also be held. The two arch-rivals will play at least twice in the Asian event.
Last year the Asia Cup (T20 format) was hosted by Sri Lanka in UAE. Due to the economic crisis, the island nation could not host the event at home. This year the event will be played in the 50-over format and will help the teams prepare for the World Cup.
