After the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 schedule was announced, veteran Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram hailed the men in green for performing well during the mega event in India this year.
Pakistan will begin their World Cup campaign on October 6 with a match against Qualifier 1 in Hyderabad.
Praising Pakistan captain Babar Azam in a chat with the ICC, the former skipper said the home side was led by one of the “greats of the modern era”.
“We have a good side… a very good ODI side and it is led by one of the greats of the modern era in Babar Azam.”
“As long as they are fit and as long as they play according to the plan, they will have a chance to do well in this World Cup because it is played in conditions similar to ours in India in the subcontinent.
“I think he [can improve] because he’s the best player we have.
“The whole country follows him, whatever he does, he brings people to the stadium and it doesn’t matter whether it’s T20, ODI or Test cricket and, in my opinion, he has The most beautiful cover drive in the world.”
It should be noted that ICC had announced the schedule of World Cup 2023 earlier today.
10 teams will battle it out for the elusive title at 10 venues from October 5 to November 19, with the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad hosting the tournament’s opening and finals.
The tournament will be played in a round-robin format in which all teams will play a total of 45 league matches against each other.
The top four teams will qualify for the semi-finals, which will be held in Mumbai on November 15 and Kolkata on November 16. The semi-finals and finals will have reserve days.
