The International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Monday it was disappointed after a stranger filmed Indian batsman Virat Kohli in his hotel room in Perth.
The superstar Indian cricketer had earlier said he was “paranoid about his privacy” and criticized the attacker’s actions.
In a statement, the ICC said, “Disgusted by the serious invasion of privacy by a member of the Indian travel party in Crown Perth, during his team’s pre-event preparations ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. Very disappointed.”
“We continue to work with event hotels and security providers to ensure this remains an isolated incident and player privacy is fully respected at all times.”
The hotel responded to the incident by saying it had launched an investigation and that a contractor had been “fired”.
A Crown Resorts spokesman told JEE News: “We are aware of a privacy incident involving a contractor and a guest at Crown Perth.”
“We apologize to the guest involved in an unsafe manner and will continue to take the necessary steps to ensure this remains an isolated incident.
“We have zero tolerance for this behavior, and it falls well below the standards we set for our team members and contractors.
“The Crown took immediate steps to remedy this matter, including launching an investigation, arresting those involved.
“The original video was also quickly removed from the social media platform.
“We are also cooperating with the Indian cricket team and the International Cricket Council in apologizing and will continue to work with them as we progress our investigation.”
Kohli has been in superb form in the tournament with two match-winning unbeaten half-centuries but fell for 12 runs in his side’s defeat against South Africa in Perth on Sunday.
