ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will indict Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan today (Wednesday) in the case of insulting the commission and the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).

The PTI chairman has also been asked to ensure his presence before the EC bench.

A four-member bench of the election body headed by Election Commission Sindh member Nisar Ahmed Durrani last week postponed the indictment of the PTI chairman on the request of his lawyer.

It was Khan’s first appearance in the case, which began in August last year, which initiated proceedings against him and two other top party leaders at the time, Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry.

He was accused of allegedly using obscene and insulting language against the Commission and the Chief Election Commissioner during media interactions on various occasions.

Khan, who was recently issued a non-bailable warrant, attended the ECP bench hearing along with his lawyer Shoaib Shaheen.

The PTI chief’s counsel sought an adjournment, saying he needed more time to collect the case records. The Commission responded by reminding him that it was his responsibility to manage the file and case records.
