KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Barrister Hassaan Khan Niazi was detained by the Karachi Police on Tuesday in a case of allegedly threatening the state after the Punjab Police.

Niazi, who is PTI chairman Imran Khan’s focal person for legal affairs and his nephew, is facing multiple cases including incitement to violence, interference in police affairs and the Zuli Shah murder case. The latest case filed against the lawyer was for inciting public hatred against the state.

The case was registered on Monday at Karachi’s Jamshed Quarters police station on the report of Muhammad Iqbal.

According to the text of the First Information Report (FIR), Niazi and his accomplices incited people through social media videos. While addressing, he threatened the defense agencies and said that if Imran Khan is arrested, no one will be spared.

Karachi Police officials confirmed Niazi’s detention, saying that the four-member team that detained him includes a Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) and three policemen.

He said that Niazi will be produced in Karachi court after investigation.

Meanwhile, the courts have granted bail in the cases registered against Niazi in Lahore and Quetta.

The Karachi police had yesterday obtained the PTI leader’s interim remand for transfer to the port city from the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), which sent him to jail on 14-day judicial remand in the Zuli Shah murder case.

During the previous hearing, the investigating officer requested Niazi’s physical remand for the photographer test, but the learned judge rejected the request for physical remand and approved the two-week judicial remand.

Niazi was detained on March 20 in a case related to misbehavior with policemen after getting anticipatory bail in three other cases while leaving the judicial complex in the federal capital.

A local court in Islamabad on March 21 granted the two-day physical remand of PTI’s focal person for legal affairs. After which he was sent to jail on 14-day judicial remand after the period of physical remand was over.
