Instagram users around the world are reporting problems accessing their profiles.
The Metta-owned social network says it is “looking into” the issue, which has led to some people being told they have been suspended from the platform.
DownDetector – which monitors site outages – says it has learned that thousands of users have been affected.
Some are shown a message saying their account has been suspended for 30 days.
A tweet from the official Instagram communication account said: “We are aware that some of you are experiencing issues accessing your Instagram account.
“We are looking into this and apologize for the inconvenience.”
The company has yet to provide further details on what is causing this unusual issue.
Some users who are still able to access the platform have reported seeing a large drop in their follower count as suspended accounts disappear from the site due to the issue.
Last week, fellow meta-messaging platform WhatsApp suffered an outage that took it offline for nearly two hours.
