Tim David hit three straight sixes in the last over as Mumbai Indians beat Rajasthan Royals in dramatic fashion in the 1,000th match of the Indian Premier League.

The Australian scored 45 off 14 balls as Mumbai chased down the highest IPL total with a total score of 214-4 at their Wankhede Stadium.

Rajasthan opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 124 off 62 balls to take his team to 212-7.

Mumbai’s England bowler Jofra Archer, who is recovering from an elbow injury, took 1-35.

Archer took the wicket of West Indian Jason Holder but could not stop India’s Jaiswal, who hit 16 fours and eight sixes as the visitors set a mammoth target.

Mumbai’s hopes of chasing the total suffered in the 16th over when Suryakumar Yadav was brilliantly caught out by Sandeep Sharma off Trent Boult for 55.

But David saved and with Holder needing 17 for victory in the last over, he clinched victory with the fifth six of his innings, with just three balls to spare.

“It’s an amazing feeling, the crowd was going crazy,” David said.

In the earlier match, Punjab Kings chased down Chennai Super Kings’ total of 200-4 after Sikandar Raza scored three runs off the last ball of the innings to seal a four-wicket victory.

Liam Livingstone scored a 24-ball 40, which included four sixes, while England teammate Sam Curran scored 20 off 29 to help the Kings’ run chase.

Curran also took 1-46, with Livingstone caught as he took the wicket of Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja for 12.

Dion Conway of South Africa remained unbeaten on behalf of the Super Kings by scoring 92 runs off 52 balls.
