Hours after the International Monetary Fund (IMF) issued a statement on talks with Pakistan, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said talks with the global lender had ended “positively”.

Addressing the media, the finance minister confirmed that the government has received the draft Memorandum of Economic and Financial Policies (MEFP) from the international lender.

At the beginning of his media talk, the Finance Minister recalled the program that the government is implementing which Imran Khan signed with the IMF in 2019-2020. He reiterated that the Shehbaz Sharif-led government was negotiating the deal as a “sovereign commitment”.

He reminded that this is an old agreement that was previously suspended and delayed.

Coming to Pakistan’s talks with the international lender, the finance minister said the 10-day-long talks covered power, gas sectors and financial and fiscal aspects.

“The State Bank governor and various departments were involved in the talks,” Dar said.
