Ishaq Dar seeks Arif Alvi’s help to win over PTI on IMF programme

Sources told JEE News on Wednesday that Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar met President Dr. Arif Alvi to discuss the ongoing political situation in the country including the dissolution of assemblies and the implementation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) agreement.

Discussions are ongoing between the current coalition government and the opposition regarding the date of general elections and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan’s claim to dissolve the assemblies of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to sources, the leader of Pakistan Muslim League (N) discussed political and economic issues. Sources said that apart from this, the issue of dissolution of provincial assemblies and resignations was also discussed.

Sources said that the two leaders also discussed the upcoming general elections in the country, they also discussed the cooperation of KP and Punjab government in reducing import bills.

Sources further said that the finance minister sought cooperation from the opposition regarding the implementation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) agreement.

Sources said that PML-N leader and President Alvi also discussed about PTI’s cooperation in bringing political stability in the country. He further said that the President also assured Dar to discuss all these matters with the PTI leadership.

According to sources, the leaders also considered the issue of closing markets across the country at 6 pm.

Negotiations
Discussions between the current government and the opposition regarding the date of the general elections are ongoing as the Tehreek-e-Insaaf continues to pressurize the government to hold snap polls.

The PTI chief has claimed to dissolve the Punjab and KP Assemblies if the government does not decide on early elections.

On December 5, senior vice president of the party, Fawad Chaudhry, said that if the election negotiations are not held by December 20, the party will dissolve the provincial assemblies on December 21.

“They [alliance parties at the centre] are afraid to hold elections because they fear PTI will win,” Fawad said.

Assuring the PTI of the full support of its ally Pakistan Muslim League (Q), the PTI leader said that Chief Minister Punjab Pervez Elahi and his son Munis Elahi also want the dissolution of the assembly and elections within 90 days. are dissolving.

“Pervaiz Elahi and Munis Elahi have assured us that they will dissolve the assembly whenever we ask,” the former federal minister said amid remarks by Muslim League (Q) leaders who led the PTI. are the opposite of

Confirming the talks with the PTI coalition government, Fawad said that Dar had two meetings with President Alvi.

“Ishaq Dar told the president that [the government] is ready for elections, but they need to consult Nawaz Sharif first,” revealed the former information minister.

He said that Ishaq Dar said that he will consult Nawaz Sharif and inform President Arif Alvi, but he has not given any reply yet and we are waiting.

Earlier in a press conference, Fawad had confirmed that the PTI and the coalition government were indeed in talks.
