The Islamabad High Court on Monday booked PTI leader Ali Amin Gandapur for protesting the violence during the May 25 march and the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to disqualify party chief Imran Khan. Dismissed 13 cases filed.
Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri accepted the plea to dismiss the cases against Gandapur. However, the PTI leader’s lawyer withdrew two applications.
Station house officers and investigating officers of around 15 police stations of Islamabad appeared in the court.
During the hearing, Justice Jahangiri issued this order on the petitions of the PTI leader. The justice taunted the police saying that when the High Court issues notice, one should not be able to sleep at night.
Case
On May 28, the Islamabad Police registered cases against PTI Chairman Imran Khan and other senior leaders including Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Asad Umar following the riots in the federal capital during March.
Apart from the top officers, Gandapur, Shireen Mazari, Zartaj Gul, and Raja Khurram Nawaz were also named in the First Information Reports (FIRs).
The cases were registered for blocking roads, disrupting state affairs, assaulting police personnel and damaging property. Police registered cases in Abpara, Kohsar, Tarnool, Lohi Bhir, Ramna, Bihara Kahu and Secretariat police stations.
Cases were also registered against PTI leaders after protesting against the ECP’s decision to disqualify the former prime minister in the Tosha Khana reference.
