Islamabad: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan will deliberate on the nominations related to the Supreme Court in an important meeting on June 14 in Islamabad.
Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Musrat Hilali, a prominent name in the legal community, is being touted as a top contender to be in the spotlight and join the prestigious judicial body.
In the consultative session, the nominations of former Peshawar High Court Justice Qaiser Rasheed and Justice Roohul Amin will also be considered.
Meanwhile, the last session saw an interesting discussion as six of the nine members of the commission demanded immediate appointments to fill the two vacant seats in the Supreme Court.
Sources have revealed that the highly respected name of Sindh High Court Chief Justice Ahmed Ali Sheikh has been unanimously withdrawn from consideration.
A consensus has been reached to propose PHC Chief Justice Hilali as a candidate in his place. The final decision on his appointment is eagerly awaited and will be unveiled during an important gathering.
However, the recent nomination of two additional candidates by Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Umar Atta Bandial has added an interesting twist to the proceedings.
The inclusion of these names has sparked intrigue and raised eyebrows within the commission, fostering an atmosphere of hope and curiosity.
If Chief Justice Hilali’s nomination is successfully cleared by the commission, it will be a historic milestone, as she will become the first woman judge from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to grace the prestigious corridors of the Supreme Court.
Her appointment will not only be a source of pride for the province but will also strengthen the growing representation of women in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Earlier, Justice Ayesha Malik made history as the first woman judge to wear the dignified robes of the Supreme Court, paving the way for future trailblazers.
The nation is eagerly awaiting the commission’s verdict, as it has the potential to shape the judicial landscape and the quest for gender equality in the highest court of the land.
