ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Tuesday, after hearing the petitions of electric companies, directed the utility companies to pay their clients in January 2023 bills for the November Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA). 7.43 per unit should be refunded. 2022, JEE News reported on Wednesday.
The Karachi-based power utility had submitted its application to Nepra, agreeing to refund Rs 7.04 per unit to consumers.
NEPRA’s hearing was conducted by NEPRA Chairman Tauseef Farooqui. Along with this, Engineer Maqsood Anwar Khan of KP, Mathur Niaz Rana of Balochistan and Rafiq Ahmed Sheikh of Sindh were also present.
Nepra has done the proposed calculation after calculating the electric cell purchase data for November 2022.
In a few days, the regulator will issue its final decision to include these decisions in consumer billing for January 2023.
This adjustment/relief will be available to all categories of KE consumers except Lifeline Power consumers, domestic consumers consuming up to 300 units, agricultural consumers, and Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS).
This is the fifth consecutive month since July 2022 that the regulator has directed K-Electric to pay specific per unit charges to consumers.
Interestingly, in its first decision to FCA in October, Nepra had directed the utility to refund Rs 2.456 per unit to consumers in December bills. It was being refunded and the company had a total impact of Rs 4.11 billion.
“The November FCA was lower mainly due to 18%, 15% and 37% reduction in prices of power procured from RLNG, furnace oil, and CPPA-G (Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guaranteed),” a company spokesperson said. was %, respectively compared to September 2022.
Utilities suffer FCA due to global fluctuations in fuel prices used to generate electricity and changes in the generation mix. Additionally, consumers also benefit when fuel prices fall compared to the reference month.
In terms of the September 2022 FCA, Nepra had directed K-Electric to refund clients Rs 5.126 per unit in their November bills with an impact of around Rs 9 billion on the company.
For the August FCA, K Electric was directed to refund consumers Rs 4.8862 per unit in October bills with an impact of around Rs 8.5 billion. Similarly, for July 2022 FCA, the regulator asked KE to refund Rs 4.117 per unit in September 2022 bills.
