At least five explosions have been heard in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv – in what a presidential adviser has blamed on “Kamizhek drones” sent by Russia.Ukrainian President Zelenskyi’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, said it showed his frustration.Mayor Vitalii Klitschko said residential buildings were damaged in the central Shevchenkivskii area.A week earlier, the capital was hit by Russian missiles in a rush, part of nationwide attacks that killed 19 people.Monday’s explosions began at around 06:30 local time (03:30 GMT), and there were at least five in total. The latest was around 08:10 local time.
Two were near downtown, with sirens and car alarms blaring throughout the area.Writing on Telegram’s social media site, Mr Klitschko said the blasts took place in the Shevchenkivskiy district, which had been hit by several attacks last week.He said rescue workers were at the scene of the fire, and told residents to stay in air raid shelters.Mr Yermak called the kamikaze attacks Russia’s “death knell” and said Ukraine needed more air defense systems “as soon as possible”.Oksana Kovalenko, a local journalist, told that two drones targeted critical energy infrastructure and one was shot down.
