Karachi: Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Karachi Kings has announced the replacement of injured fast bowler Mir Hamza for the rest of the season.

Fast bowler Akif Javed has been included in the team in place of Mir Hamza.

Mir Hamza suffered a finger injury during KK’s opening match against Peshawar Zalmi on February 14.

He was injured when he tried to block Babar Azam’s drive in the opening overs of the game. The ball hit his fingers and hit the stumps resulting in the dismissal of Peshawar Zalmi batsman Saeem Ayub.

The team physio applied pain-relieving spray to Hamza’s fingers during the game. The fast bowler bowled two overs and got the wicket of Zalmi’s opener Mohammad Haris for just 13 runs.

After the game, he was taken to the hospital for a scan where the nature of the injury was confirmed, after which the KK management requested the technical committee to suggest a replacement.

Last season, Hamza took eight wickets in four matches for the Kings.

Hamza’s replacement Akif has previously represented two-time PSL champions Islamabad United.

Hamza is the third fast bowler to be ruled out of PSL 8 in the last two days.

Double blow to the Sultans
Ahead of their second match, Multan Sultans received yet another bad news as pacer Shahnawaz Damirani and South Africa’s Wayne Parnell were ruled out of PSL 8 due to injuries.

The Sultans named Mohammad Elias and Carlos Braithwaite in place of Durman and Parnell.
