Sources told JEE News that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to nominate Khurram Sher Zaman as its candidate for the mayorship of Karachi.
Sources say that the official decision will be announced by PTI chief Imran Khan.
PTI officials said on condition of anonymity that the party has also finalized its strategy for the upcoming local elections in Sindh’s Karachi and Hyderabad divisions.
Former federal minister Ali Zaidi will be the head of all election sales in Sindh. While Bilal Ghaffar has been given the task of maintaining the cell meant for Karachi.
Senior PTI leader Firdous Shamim Naqvi will be in-charge of general elections cell in Sindh.
According to the schedule released by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), local body elections in Karachi and Hyderabad will be held on January 15, 2023.
The ECP had announced its decision on local body elections in Karachi and Hyderabad on November 22.
The Commission directed the concerned authorities including the Sindh Government, Chief Secretary and Inspector General of Police to ensure the holding of local body elections on the said date under Article 220 of the Constitution and asked them to ensure that adequate number of security personnel are deployed. I am present. Election duty for carrying polling stations, offices of District Returning Officers, Returning Officers (ROs), polling staff and polling materials from offices of ROs.
PTI Karachi President Bilal Ghaffar appreciated the announcement of the date of local body elections by ECP.
He hoped that “this time the ECP will conduct the local body elections according to the constitution and law”. Ghaffar said people are fed up with the provincial government “using delaying tactics to postpone the second phase of the LG elections.”
Sindh’s ruling party also assured the ECP that it will hold the local body elections in the province on the scheduled date.
People’s Party Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khoro had said that the provincial government is ready to ensure the transparent conduct of the second phase of local elections.
He claimed that the People’s Party will win in the second phase as well as the party won in the first phase.
The JI also issued a statement appreciating the decision of the ECP. The party’s Karachi chief Hafiz Naeemur Rahman also demanded that the electoral body stop the PPP government from “conspiring against the LG elections”.
