King Charles III celebrated his first winner since inheriting the late Queen’s horses when Just Fine triumphed at Leicester on Tuesday.
The 10-3 shot was ridden by Ryan Moore and trained by Michael Stott – the same combination behind Queen Elizabeth II’s win with Steemit in the Gold Cup at Ascot in 2013.
“A winner for the king,” said Stott. “It’s great for him to do that – and he was very impressive.”
John Warren, the King’s racing manager, said: “I’m delighted that the King and Queen’s mate (Camilla) has had her first winner and she will be delighted.
“I’m also absolutely delighted for Sir Michael Stott, who was probably Her Majesty’s longest-serving trainer, and for Ryan Moore, who also put in a great effort.”
Just Fine, the sixth runner named Badshah, won Leicester’s premier event Higher Venue Handicap by four and a half lengths.
Charles III had his first runner in the royal purple, red and gold at Salisbury on Thursday, with the Educator finishing second.
Charles has previously won in the colors he shared with Queen Consort Camilla when they were Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.
