PESHAWAR: Police repelled an attack on two outposts in remote areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Sunday night.
According to the publication, Tank police and local residents foiled an attack on Peer Tangi police post near Jindola police station late on Sunday night.
Dozens of militants armed with automatic weapons attacked the police post, an official said.
“However, the police were alert and retaliated strongly. Many locals also came out of their houses to support the police. The assailants managed to escape after an exchange of fire for about 10 minutes,” District Police Officer Tank Waqar Ahmed told JEE News that the police had repelled a few other such attacks in Tank and adjoining districts in recent weeks.
The Inspector General of Police, Moazzam Jah Ansari, praised the Tank district police for bravely repelling the attack, an official said. The IGP said that the police across the province are on alert and will give a strong response to any attack.
The IGP directed Regional Police Officer Dera Ismail Khan Saleem Marwat to conduct a search operation in the area to find the assailants who were killed or injured in police firing. Tank is one of the remotest districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa bordering Waziristan.
A few hours after the attack in Tank, another police post was attacked in Daraban area of Dera Ismail Khan. The police and army repulsed the attack, police said. No casualties were reported.
