In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, polling will be held on April 16 for the election of the new provincial assembly.

The date of the elections was announced by Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Haji Ghulam Ali on Tuesday evening.

He has informed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) about the date of the elections.

With a letter replying to the ECP’s letter, the provincial governor assured the supreme poll body of conducting free and fair elections.

Earlier, the ECP had asked the KP Governor to decide the date for the polls between April 15 and 17.

The governor later indicated that the date would be fixed between April 16-18.

The 11th Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was dissolved on 18 January 2023.

The assembly was dissolved after former Chief Minister Mehmood Khan sent a written advice to Governor Ali to dissolve the assembly.

Ali later acted on the advice and dissolved the assembly.
