Szoboszlai, who had an impressive season in the Bundesliga, including six goals and eight assists, has signed a five-year deal with the Reds.
Szoboszlai becomes Liverpool’s second signing of the summer, bolstering their midfield options. The £35m signing of Alexis McAllister from Brighton preceded the arrival of the talented Hungarian playmaker. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp sees Soboszlai as a versatile and tactically flexible player, much like the former Red Bull Salzburg star.
The club held talks with the players’ representatives earlier in the week, which resulted in the transfer progressing quickly. Liverpool were able to trigger the release clause in Soboszlai’s contract, ensuring his capture before the clause expired on Friday.

The decision to follow Szoboszlai was prompted by Liverpool’s interest in Chelsea’s Mason Mount, who was entering the final year of his contract. However, negotiations with Chelsea proved more complicated and expensive, making Soboszlai a more viable alternative for the Reds. Expressing his excitement about joining Liverpool, Szoboszlai expressed his admiration for the club’s history, talented players, and respected coach.
He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to take the next step in his career at such a prestigious club, highlighting the number of enthusiastic fans and the extraordinary atmosphere of the stadium.

Before moving to Liverpool, Soboszlai enjoyed success with RB Leipzig, contributing to back-to-back German Cup victories. In the final of the recent season against Eintracht Frankfurt, he scored the team’s second goal, in a 2–0 victory. Known for his set pieces, goalscoring ability, and versatility throughout midfield, Soboszlai will wear the iconic No.8 shirt previously worn by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard and recently vacated by Naby Keita.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp expressed his familiarity with Soboszlai since the midfielder’s time at Red Bull Salzburg. Klopp acknowledged Soboszlai’s remarkable progress in the Bundesliga, as well as his leadership qualities as captain of the Hungarian national team at a young age. Praising Soboszlai’s potential as a footballer, Klopp emphasized the importance of patience and allowing the player’s talents to flourish within the team, highlighting his youth and room for growth.
The addition of Dominik Soboszlai bolsters Liverpool’s midfield options and underlines the club’s ambitions to remain competitive in domestic and international competitions. The Reds faithful are eagerly awaiting the young midfielder’s debut, with the hope that he will be part of Jurgen Klopp’s strong squad.
